JAPN 404: Advanced Japanese for Presentational Communication
This course aims to develop advanced proficiency in communication through oral and written presentations to finalize research project for Capstone in Japanese using appropriate media. Taught in Japanese.
Course Narrative:
In JAPN 404, my partner and I were finally able to develop our thesis, as well as learn necessary grammar and vocabulary that could help us accurately present our ideas in Japanese. Using Google's applications (Google Docs, Slides, Forms) aided in this project, as it was completed as a pair. I learned how to continue using Google as a resource to finish my project, such as Google Forms, in which my partner and I created Japanese and English surveys to be sent to students in Japan and throughout the United States. As we accumulated our newest findings, my partner and I transferred our data into Google Slides to present our research throughout the semester. Because we used Google Forms to complete our surveys, I also attempted to learn how to make charts using the application, but my peers and I resulted in using Microsoft Excel to quickly make charts to share our data. Finally, my partner and I used a combination of Google Docs and Microsoft Word to transfer the information on our presentations into research papers written in Japanese and English. The Capstone project experience helped me exercise my communication skills with my research partner by frequently meeting with Japanese international students for help in translating our materials.
